Summary

The course examines the history of Korean fishing industry and its development from the perspective of the evolution of fisheries laws. It presents the institutional process in which the traditional fishing rights have transformed into modern fisheries laws, as well as the history of the changes in actual fishing practices, using various historical documents and statistical data. Students will understand the importance of fisheries, the primary industry that has not received enough attention, in the Korean economy.
