Summary

Water is a vital resource for the survival of all living organisms, the progress of human civilization, and the preservation of the environment, playing a key role in building a sustainable society and ecosystem. Unlike other species that rely on natural water sources for survival, humans have developed diverse methods to secure water for daily life and industrial use and have passed down technologies for managing and culturally appreciating water.

Focusing on key areas such as water supply, wastewater systems, and agricultural water, this course explores how water has been utilized throughout Korean history. It examines the evolution of water-related technologies and policies, as well as cultural practices related to water use. Covering a broad historical range from ancient times to the modern era, the course offers numerous concrete examples to help students deepen their understanding of Korea’s water heritage and its significance.
