Summary
This course examines Korea's economic development experience in connection with demographic changes. Demographic change, currently a major threat to the Korean economy and an urgent task for Korean society due to low birth rates and an aging population, was actually a growth factor for the Korean economy in the past when the proportion of the working-age population was increasing. The course reviews the unfolding process of Korea's demographic changes—which have a massive impact on the economy and society—the government's responses, and their impact on the Korean economy, while also looking at the future impact of demographic changes. Students will learn the long-term trends of Korea's demographic changes and understand them in relation to economic development.
